Needle felting - coin purses - galaxy purple

Time to play around with this and see if I can use up some of my random pieces of roving to make something interesting.

This is how the colours turned out after the wet felting.

Not bad but how will it turn out when I put in my purse clasp

I did ummed a bit regarding the placement and I think I got it where I wanted it.  Sometimes it is hard to tell.

I call it my moss ball purse because it happens to look like one of those marimo or moss balls.

Needle felting - coin purses - Navy blue

There is nothing like a bit of needle felting to remove negative feeling.

It is all the stabbing with the needle you see, it is very therapeutic (hehehehe)

So I caught the needle felting bug probably 7 or so years ago but lately it has been put on the back burner since I brought the sewing machine and went a little crazy with my fabric hoarding.....collecting.

I would dabble every now again but only to embellish things but this time I decided I needed a full on needle felting project.

Coin purse.

You can never have too many of them because they are so adorable!  Also it is very handy for small change that I often need for buying milk for the office or sweeties.

I found my inspiration from a youtube video.

And I thought this would it be possible to make them smaller.

Well lucky youtube came through again.

So I picked my colour and picked my poly ball size but I had to order in the purse clasps.  As always eBay comes to the rescue but I had to wait nearly 3 weeks for them to arrive.

In the meantime, I decided to start my stumpwork embroidery which I have posted and you can read here and here.

Anyway they arrived and like a child in a candy store I made my first felt ball.  Left it over night to dry and then sewed the clasp in.

And Ta-Da here it is

My hair is styled into casual chignon as I am out for the evening with some friends. I also have a little white obi-dome on my obi-jime for decoration.

I am only 6.5cm tall but I am a feisty doll. I hope you enjoyed my description and see you soon!

The waiting game!

So the kokeshi doll are waiting for their owners to contact them so what are they doing in the mean time?

Of course play a little bit of computer games.

They discovered that they were rubbish at playing games because they couldn't co-ordinate themselves quickly enough, nevermind.

After the failure of the game playing they decided to meet their neighbours that live down the hallway.

They may look scary at first but the robots where quite nice and they got on very well!

Fun with Felt Kokeshi Doll

Lately I have been absorbed in making kokeshi doll via the needle felting and now I have a small army of them it is time to start posing them!

Here are three of them trying their best type an email.

They are having a little trouble because they are only small and they have to jump really hard to push one of the keyboard letters.

Then there is the problem with the mouse!

They are only small and this mouse is somewhat big for them.

And after all this hard work sending an email it was time for a well earned break.

These three kokeshi dolls were trying to contact their new owners. I wonder if they were successful?

Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi dolls are little wooden dolls that you can buy in Japan and it is a love/hate sort of thing.

I find them cute but I can see why people get freaked out by them. I think it is a similar thing with porcelain dolls. I find them a little creepy because I am imagining them watching my every move.

Anyway lately I have caught the needle felting bug and my latest work is kokeshi dolls. The first one is called Primo.

She is a tiny little kokeshi doll only 6cm tall!

However this morning I woke up and thought wouldn't it be great to make some that look like my friends.

Well the first friend I did was Lyuba from http://funkymakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/. She love stripes so her kokeshi doll is stripy!

She is also made about cats as well so on her otaiko I put a little kitty.

I posted this one straightaway and Liz asked if she was going to get a mini-me. How could I refuse?

She loves black and red so her kimono has those two colours flowing through.

She also puts her hair into braids normally so her kokeshi doll also has them.

Then Arian said he would love to see a Naomi (his wife) one. So after looking through her flickr album I found the perfect picture to use as reference.

I love how the hair turned out!

Of course now I have a little gang of kokeshi doll and here they are having a little girly chat about kimono and kitsuke.

What do you think they are talking about?

Nigiri needle felt

I have recently caught the bug for needle felting so I brought a kit of my good friend Katie Chaplin from Japan Craft and off I felted!

My first attempt you saw was a little star but here is my latest creation!

They were beginning to make me feel hungry when I finished them, I had to have lunch or these would have disappeared down my mouth.

What do you think about them? Would you like to see them in my store?

Please feel free to comment ^_^
