I'm feeling very retro these days and as I look back through the ages there is one era that I seem to glance over.  The flapper era!

Why Is This Gorgeous?


I love this dress because it is so cute!!!!!  This dress is perfect for a little beach wedding or if you are planning a whole day of dancing.

It is also a wonderful dress for you ladies who have a boyish figure.  I always feel that it is the dress that should make you look beautiful, not the other way round and this is a perfect example.  So what you do not have a hourglass figure, it does not mean you can not look girly and fab.  This is a light and delicate dress which clearly shouts femininity but doesn't not need the wearer to have curves.

I only wish I can wear a dress like this!

As I mentioned above, this is a dress for someone who has a boyish figure because of the cut.  Not that someone who has curve can not wear it but I feel it will not play to your advantages.

And it is certainly not for ladies who have a wide hip, that sash detail will accentuate the width and possibly blow it out of proportion.

How many of you would loss weight for your wedding day?

I have always said that it is the wedding dress that should make you look good!

By all means go the the gym and tone up your muscles but this article from the Daily Mail is just worrying.

Why were these brides driven to starve themselves to look good for one day of their life?

Did they believe it was normal for bride to be to look slim for their day?

It got me thinking about my experiences as it was only a few months ago when I had my mother telling me to get to the gym because I would look better toned up for my wedding.  My mother keep telling me that I would look better if I lost a couple of inches here and there despite I was going to be wearing a corset and my skirt was going to be hiding any lumps and bumps on my lower half.

I resisted at all cost because I couldn't see the point of stressing about such a minor point and my husband himself said it was not needed as I will look good no matter what.  And on the day I don't think I look too big, my corset made my waist to a nice 26 inch waist.  This is my normal corseted waist so I wasn't in any pain if you were worried.

Where does this image of a slim bride comes from/?

I know every brides wants to look their best but please remember that looks is only skin deep and in the end of the day, you are marrying a person who will love you no matter how you look.

Sakura Wedding Kanzashi!

I just have to share with you my latest custom order for a bride who is having a cherry blossom (or sakura) themed wedding!

She contacted me through etsy asking me to create for her a kanzashi that reminded her proposal amongst the sakura trees in Japan.  Isn't that a lovely image!  How could I refuse?

Isn't it adorable!

I never get bored with making falls for kanzashi as they are a lot of fun. 

Especially these ones because they have little bells so they jingle as you walk.

And just to show how long the kanzashi is on someone here is me wearing it.

I think the best way to wear this kanzashi is with a side bun which is sweeped quite high.  This way the hair will frame the bouquet nicely and also allow the falls to dangle just low enough so they swing freely.  My side bun is a little bit low in this photo because I just used a large beck clip to hold my hair but it gives you an idea of what sort of hairstyle you could try.

So what is a classic style wedding dress?  Well for me it is a dress which looks beautiful no matter what else is in fashion and can easy be passed on to future generations.

Why I love this dress?

This dress just has enough of everything to make it stunning.  A little bit of lace at the top to give it some detail and to reveal a little bit of flesh while the three quarter length sleeves provide the modest that looks timeless.

Then there is the skirt, it is just layers of lovely fabric which is not weighted down my beading or embroidery so if you plan to give it to your daughter it would be easier to alter.  Hey one must think practical when it comes to these matters.

Hmmm there must be something wrong?

Unlike some of my previous dresses this one will not stun the crowds with originality.

I think one of the problems in wearing something timeless is that people will not be shouting about your dress.  They will say you look lovely and how the dress really suits your styling but if you want to turn peoples' heads then you will probably want something more spectacular.

However a wedding is not about putting on a show but rather a celebration of two people staying together for the rest of their lives.

Kanzashi Flower Valentine Hairclip, Deep Red

Howwever once mastered, this technique offers the artisan the freedom to create unique flowers which are as charming as the real object which will never wither away

Wedding all over and finished!

I just looked at the date today and I have already been married a month and still haven't blogged about it.

How forgetful I have been these days.

It was a lovely day and apart from one slight hiccup, everything went according to plan!

The ceremony went smoothly and before my partner and I knew it, we were married!

If you are wondering what I am doing with my hand, I'm doing a maneki neko pose for my kimono friends.

And here we have my lovely husband walking me down the aisle as his wife.  We joked that we should running out of the hotel and hopping onto the first bus into town to avoid socialising but that would have been cruel.

The rest of the day was taking up by a tea ceremony.

and generally mingling around with the guest to make sure they got a chance to talk to us before having a nice three course lunch.

Yes it was a day to remember and now it is all over, it is time to return back into reality.
